‘I love the opportunity to be accredited by an independent body which qualifies coaches to the very highest standards. This means that clients truly know that coaches who meet the ICF’s quality measure really are up to the job. This will do much for the future of our profession and for me as a professional.’

ESTABLISHING THE COACHING AGREEMENT
part of Setting the Foundation

This is a teledemo master class
with Philip Brew MCC
on Monday 19th February 2007 at 8pm UK time

Passionate about this Core Competency, Philip believes that this defining aspect of coaching is where we set our work up to be extraordinary or to be mundane. Teaching through live demonstration, his focus in this class will be not on the administrative details of our formal agreements, but on how we contract the fundamental coaching relationship with our clients. Get this right and the whole coaching process flows without effort. This part of the Coaching Process sets the scene and tone so that both client and coach know exactly what their roles are and where the boundaries are. It is the time when mutual expectations are managed so that both parties know really clearly what each of them is there for, and just how they are going to dance together.

  • Do you think that you have cracked this crucial ‘contracting’ piece?

  • Are you clear what you are, and are not, responsible for as a coach?

  • At those times when you find yourself unsure how to proceed, or doubting the value of your work with a client, are you aware of the huge opportunity this presents?

Observing Philip, as he establishes the coaching agreement with a client, is a powerful experience. His clarity about what he is prepared to do and how he is prepared to be with his client is extraordinary. The simplicity with which he engages with his client is the mark of a truly masterful coach. As he will tell you: get this essential basis for the coaching relationship right and everything that follows is set up to succeed. What attention to this Core Competency achieves is freedom for the client to do the work they need and for the coach to hold the space for them to do so and not get in the way.

So come and join Philip Brew, MCC and one of the ICF Assessors here in the UK, on the 19th February at 8pm [UK time] when he will be demonstrating establishing the Coaching agreement live with a chance to ask questions afterwards.
