What our UK members say:

'Professional standards are vital to the standing and credibility of Coaching as an emerging profession. The ICF is the only independent professional body with a track record of accrediting coaches to these rigorous standards and at a variety of levels. So I am proud to be designated a Master Coach by the ICF and consider it my responsibility to myself and my clients ( national and international, corporate and personal) to ensure that I continue to operate at that level......luckily the ICF makes sure I do that!'

UK ICF - CALL FOR NOMINATIONS (Deadline 30th April)

Once you have read through the information and are considering which post you wish to be considered for, please email me direct Claire.Palmer@coachfederation.org.uk for a copy of the nomination form and the UK ICF Strategy and Goals.

The proposed timetable is as follows;

Wed 30th April 2008; Applications to be received by 5pm

May 5th - 20th; interviews for roles

Friday 23rd May; Nominations Committee put forward to the membership its recommendations for the new Board of Directors.

Friday 6th June; Individual members to nominate themselves for any post, if they have not been included in the Committee's recommendations and wish to stand.

9- 26th June; Ballot then election for those nominees recommended by the Nominations Committee and those nominated by petition.

27th June; Successful nominees notified and members informed of 2009 board.

Thursday July 3rd; UK ICF board face to face meeting for all current and successful ‘elect’ nominees.

The election is managed by the UK ICF Nominations Committee, chaired by the UK ICF Past President. The chair invites members from different constituencies within UK ICF who have an interest and understanding of the ICF.

The role of the Nominations Committee is to:

  • Provide an objective and informed resource to verify & evaluate nominations received by
  • Verifying information given
  • Interviewing candidates
  • Keep in mind the strategic challenges and opportunities likely to face the Board in the coming year(s)
  • Recommend to the Board and Members those candidates whom it considers would best fill vacant Board positions, together with the candidate information and rationale
  • Communicate to those applicants who it does not recommend to the Board, the reason for its decision, and feedback supportive of the applicants' future service to the UK ICF.
  • Invite the membership to put forward any candidates by petition (see process below).
  • If required conduct an election process for the membership.

The process that the Nominations Committee adopts is as follows:
  • The Nominations Committee invites nominations from UK ICF members to fill Board vacancies. The committee will also seek and encourage qualified candidates to be nominated for office and ascertain their willingness to serve.
  • The Nominations Committee will then, having taken into account all relevant factors, put forward to the membership its recommendations for the new Board of Directors.
  • The Nominations Committee will then invite individual members to nominate themselves for any post, if they have not been included in the Committee's recommendations and wish to stand. Any UK ICF member is entitled to have their name added to the ballot provided their nomination is supported by two percent (2%) of the voting membership ("by petition"). Members wishing to submit such nominations are required to collect e-mail support from 2% of the voting membership (currently this would mean collecting e-mails, in support of such an application, from 19 members).
  • The ballot will indicate those nominees recommended by the Nominations Committee and those nominated by petition.
  • The Nominations Committee will conduct an election by e-mail ballot in which each current UK ICF member will have one vote to cast for each directorship position to be elected. Candidates receiving the highest number of votes for each office will be declared elected. If, however, no nomination is made by petition for a particular directorship position, the Board will agree to elect the candidate recommended by the Nominating Committee for that position.
  • Those unsuccessful in the nominations process will have feedback by phone from a member of the Nominations committee. This must include a suggestion of what would make a future application successful as well as how the applicant's skill and experience could support the incoming board in another way e.g. involvement in a task force or committee.
  • In the case of a Board Member leaving her or his post, for whatever reason, in mid-service, the Nominations Committee will, upon being requested to do so by the President, reconvene and nominate a candidate to the Board, with said candidate to be elected by a majority vote of the remaining members of the Board.

I do hope that we have provided you with all the information you need to decide whether or not to submit a nomination for a UK ICF board of directors position.
