‘I love the opportunity to be accredited by an independent body which qualifies coaches to the very highest standards. This means that clients truly know that coaches who meet the ICF’s quality measure really are up to the job. This will do much for the future of our profession and for me as a professional.’

ESTABLISHING THE COACHING AGREEMENT:
What Are You Really Agreeing To?
Leveraging Your Strengths as a Coach Through Establishing the Agreement

This is a teleseries
with Grace-Lyn Allen, MCC
on 4th February 2008 at 8pm UK time

Of the challenges I’ve observed with applicants in credentialing, one of the more consistent has been the failure to establish a solid, thoroughly explored focus for the coaching session. Failure to have this “cornerstone” in the foundation of your session creates a cascade effect in all the other competencies.

A common mistake by new coaches, and certainly a challenge for applicants in the credentialing process, can be the tendency on the part of the coach to rush to the finish line, missing tremendous opportunities along the way. If you consider the coaching interaction as being multi-dimensional, or many-layered, the benefits of moving away from surface-level or straight line coaching, become quickly evident.

The coach’s invitation to deeper self awareness for the client can begin with that initial exploration around focus for the session. Failure to do so can be like attempting to put frosting on a cake that is so crumbly it won’t hold together.

Join us to explore how to bake a coaching session that holds together from opening to finish, as we discuss this pivotal competency.
