‘It’s important to me that I’m connected to (and accredited by) the most respected body in coaching worldwide. I have clients from all over the world and I believe it means something to them too. In addition, professionalising the profession is something all coaches should be committed to and this is one way of enacting that.’

ACTIVE LISTENING
- listening beyond and between the words

This is a teleseminar with Sara Boas, MCC
on Tuesday 22nd May 2007 at 8pm UK time

Coaching is a co-creative dialogue in which we listen to – and beyond – the client’s words. We listen with precision and care to the language, using the client’s exact words to converse about their world. We listen with unerring attention to the content the client brings: paraphrasing, questioning, holding the space, enabling them to explore the meaning and import of what they are saying.

We listen, equally, to discover and unravel hidden tensions, contradictions and dilemmas. We listen to – and may articulate – what is not said: the deletions and implicit assumptions. And we listen to the music of the conversation, to our client’s tone of voice, their timing, timbre and subtle melody. Our listening goes further… partnering with the client, we listen to our own inner signals: excitement, joy, relief, or doubt – all can be data to share with the client, to reflect and deepen understanding.

Debussy said ‘music is the silence between the notes’. Does the true coaching dialogue happen in the silence between our words?

The session includes an introduction to verbal and non-verbal listening, a live coaching session and time to engage in lively dialogue with your questions and reflections.

Come with a willing heart and an open mind and expect to leave with new awareness of yourself and your clients.
