POWERFUL QUESTIONING
- the key to discovery. Discovery is eternal, expertise has an expiry date
This is a teleseminar
with Michael Stratford, MCC
on Tuesday 24th June 2008 at 8pm UK time

Curiosity is a core value for me. Even when I was small, I was curious about how things worked and would constantly take things apart just to see what was what. After a while, it became obvious that there were a few essential mechanical procedures that informed most 'things' and it was just a matter of the combination of materials and 'mix and match' procedures that made things up. So I turned my curiosity to the study of the most complex 'thing' I ever encountered...people. As an actor I got the greatest pleasure out of 'sussing out' what had my character do what he was doing no matter what the role I played. Why did he move here or say this? What was really going on in his interactions? It was part of the training but also the fascination for me.
People are endlessly delightful puzzles since the word consistency is a framework most effectively applied to objects not people. People are unpredictable and ever changing/evolving, which makes them intriguing. The Respectful Assumptions allows me to see people as capable and lacking nothing (within) and then getting curious about what has them not using what they already are gifted with in the most optimal application for themselves. If "Performance = Potential - Interference" is true, then it makes the game about clarifying the interference (from the client's perspective and experience) and then finding out from the client what will be most effective in subtracting it both in the interim and for the long haul. You can't do that by telling people what you think they should do. It requires being curious and inquisitive.
Without powerful questions that get to the core/essence of people and their situations, one is doomed to simply direct the client's behaviour by a series of previously encountered, 'just add water' solutions that are arrogantly assumed to be right for ALL people. It effectively treats the client as a clone of the coach simply requiring the coach's best solution, and misses the absolutely beautiful expression of divine diversity that the client truly is.
Some titles are:

- If you aren't asking deeply enough then you're not earning your money.
- Powerful Questions: Stop solving problems and start generating Meaning.
- Powerful Questions: How can you get out of the way of questions your client's need you to ask?
- Powerful Questions: Calling the client's being into the moment.
- Powerful Questions: Evolving or just solving?

Michael Stratford, MCC
An early adopter, Michael was one of the first to be awarded the prestigious Master Certified Coach designation from the International Coach Federation. He soon earned a reputation for his creativity, mastery of language, and improvisational spontaneity. All three qualities helped him in his coaching and while training over 5,000 coaches worldwide. Michael has a light and playful approach to presenting.
He currently coaches executives on leadership in Fortune 100 companies, which might seem to be a departure from his early niche…rock bands. However, coaching rock bands gave him plenty of practice in coaching teams and team leaders. In addition, Michael loves writing, and presenting. He has written 3 books in the Master Coach Series as well as several children’s stories and haiku. Last year he published the first in a new series, “The Game of Coaching.”
"Simply an excellent leader! Michael Stratford communicated enthusiasm, humour, and had wonderful personal examples which were extremely helpful. He is obviously enthusiastic about what he does which I found very inspiring".
This Teleseminar will give you 1 CCEU hour.
