What our UK members say:

'Professional standards are vital to the standing and credibility of Coaching as an emerging profession. The ICF is the only independent professional body with a track record of accrediting coaches to these rigorous standards and at a variety of levels. So I am proud to be designated a Master Coach by the ICF and consider it my responsibility to myself and my clients ( national and international, corporate and personal) to ensure that I continue to operate at that level......luckily the ICF makes sure I do that!'

COACHING ON YOUR VIRTUAL DOORSTEP
Masterful Coaching in Action

This is a teledemo
with Michael Stratford, MCC
on Monday 21st April 2008 at 8pm UK time

When asked the question ‘How you will show up as a coach?’ Michael wrote the following.

My style is ‘focused improvisation with attention to both the presenting situation and how that situation fits in the larger picture of the client's life and what is truly meaningful for them.’ Since that's a mouthful I will break it down into smaller bites.

'Focused improvisation' - means while I will seek to establish what the clients wants to focus on and how they will know we've been successful, the precise path/arc of the coaching will be an improvisation grounded in a few key qualities: Curiosity, intuition, inquiry, respectful assumptions, deep listening/silence and an ongoing commitment to 'get out of the way of the coaching the client calls through me.'

'Attention to both the presenting situation and how that situation fits in the larger picture of the client's life and what is truly meaningful for them' - is directed toward the awareness that no client is simply presenting their current challenge as a snapshot devoid of connectivity to the rest of their life. Clients are holistic in that every thing within them and their world connects and affects everything else. Nothing is irrelevant nor is it singularly important except in the context of how it fits in the big puzzle. That big puzzle is comprised of what people are facing, living in the background of who they are and what's important to them not separate from it. To support someone to accomplish a task as if in isolation from their whole life is to not only miss an enormous opportunity for sustainable action, but it risks initiating an element into an ecosystem that may well have unfriendly longer term effects and unforeseen consequences due to the absence of congruence with the human ecosystem as a whole.

As for how it all happens, well...I get out of the way, and let the coaching come through me. That's the simplest statement I can make.

Michael Stratford, MCC

An early adopter, Michael was one of the first to be awarded the prestigious Master Certified Coach designation from the International Coach Federation. He soon earned a reputation for his creativity, mastery of language, and improvisational spontaneity. All three qualities helped him in his coaching and while training over 5,000 coaches worldwide. Michael has a light and playful approach to presenting.

He currently coaches executives on leadership in Fortune 100 companies, which might seem to be a departure from his early niche…rock bands. However, coaching rock bands gave him plenty of practice in coaching teams and team leaders. In addition, Michael loves writing, and presenting. He has written 3 books in the Master Coach Series as well as several children’s stories and haiku. Last year he published the first in a new series, “The Game of Coaching.”
"Simply an excellent leader! Michael Stratford communicated enthusiasm, humour, and had wonderful personal examples which were extremely helpful. He is obviously enthusiastic about what he does which I found very inspiring".
