When a serious health issue like cancer, stroke, spinal cord injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, a heart attack, diabetes, or another illness or injury strikes, I support you, whether you have the health issue or are in the caring role, to deal effectively with the emotional impact, navigate the many changes, create a ‘new normality’, and reclaim meaning and purpose in your life.
I empower you to return to wellness and stay there. Because you matter, and your life is important.
Through working with people in a similar situation to you and from my own experience with serious illness and being in the caring role, I have seen the impact a serious health issue can have. There is a longing for your old life coupled with concerns and questions regarding the future. Yet there is also the hope and desire to find purpose and meaning again and turn that into real change.
I supported these people to make that change happen. To create a ‘new normality’ within the reality of their changed bodies. To have a quality of life and restored confidence, to have found themselves, enjoy life and look forward to the future again.
I completed my first coaching training with Coaching Development Ltd. in 2009 and also hold a Masters in coaching psychology, where my research focused on evaluating coaching’s impact on the wellbeing of people with neurological conditions and their primary caregivers. I have since studied Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Neurosomatic Therapy and Systemic Constellations (also known as Family Constellations).
I've worked with NHS neurologists to design a research study evaluating treatment and care and the psycho-social impact of rare neurological inflammatory diseases. Previously I was a Trustee of the Transverse Myelitis Society, a UK national charity, from 2010 to 2016 and its Chair from 2013 to 2016. I have also worked with UK charities on self-management initiatives for people living with a long-term medical condition.
Prior to redirecting my career to focus on health and wellness, I worked in Learning and Development/HR in the corporate world in the UK, Central and Eastern Europe and Kazakhstan. I am originally from the USA and now call the UK my home.
My professional experience in coaching, health, research, adult learning and the corporate world, and personal experience of serious illness, returning to work afterwards, and being a carer means means I have a rich understanding of the psychological and practical impact of serious illness/injury and how coaching helps you to thrive in your work and life even within the realities of a serious health issue.
